Ainsley
Harriott's Low Fat Meals in Minutes
by Ainsley Harriott
Amazon.co.uk
Review
Blink and there's another Ainsley Harriott book out,
this incarnation is Low Fat Meals in Minutes. The target
audience this time is the weight-watching home-maker,
struggling to fit those healthy lifestyle changes into
a busy schedule; and perhaps also keeping an eye on
the kids' fat intake.
You
really have to hand it to Harriott: he's very good at
what he does. Low Fat Meals in Minutes presents eighty
fresh, interesting, tasty, low-fat recipes, none of
which takes more than an hour to prepare and cook (and
most a lot less), and each of which is accompanied by
a clear colour photograph - so you know exactly what
it's supposed to look like - and nutrition notes. What
could be simpler or more encouraging?
In
the usual Harriott manner, inspiration ranges all over,
with a preference for the flavours of Latin America,
the Mediterranean and South-East Asia. So Prawn, Mushroom
and Bean Sprout Noodles sits cheek-by-jowl with Jalapeno
Tiger-Prawn Ginger Skewers; while not far away is Roast
Lemon Bay-Scented Cod.Cajun and Jamaican jerk seasonings
are also used to good effect, for example in the Louisiana
Blue Cheese and Chicken Sandwich and Jamaican Jerk Chicken.
Puddings are strong on fruit: a particularly happy invention
is the "Live and Kicking" Lemon and Chilli
Sorbet.
A
handy collection, therefore, of speedy, waistline-friendly
recipe ideas, which might prove something of a primer
in expanding culinary horizons. The drawback, for some,
will be Harriott himself. You don't have to be a toffee-nosed
Elizabeth-David-or-nothing purist to find his manner
grating ("Slap 'em on the barbie" "Dee-lish!"
"Wowee"). But he's nothing if not friendly.

The
title says it all! Very tasty easy to cook recipes,
with good tips on how to reduce fat. My life has changed
with his fat chips recipe to be cooked in the oven.
Recipes that take you to so many countries without
moving from home and really quick and easy. Fantastic
and easy to remember by heart. Amust for who like
me wants to watch our fat intake but eat delicious
foods.
One
book you wont regret buying! (January
2006)

This
book is amazing, I was a bit sceptical of the reviews
but I was proven wrong. It contains some very good
and practical recipes all with pictures along with
all the information on cooking on one page - each
recipe has a detailed breakdown of calories and saturated
fat content, it's really worth getting this book even
if you are not trying to reduce your fat intake!
Simply delicious (October 2005)

He
did it again ! Simply great recipes with lots of exotic
tastes, easy peasy to make, and all in a low fat version.
The
recipes I've tried so far are fabulous and made a
great impression. The Casablanca couscous served with
the lemon, garlic and coriander chicken was a real
hit and a fabulous trip to the northern african continent.
Thank
you again, chef, for the great recipes as well as
for the colors and tastes this book brings to my kitchen.

A
great book. Easy to follow, with excellent results.
You would never guess it was 'low fat cooking'. I
have cooked almost everything in this book - delicious
from store cupboard ingredients. I often turn to this
book when I want to impress friends with a tasty easy
to make meal.
