Cooking
with Keith Floyd in the Lake District
. . . at
Linthwaite House, a haven for those with distinctive
tastes
Legendary
chef Keith Floyd, doyen of English cookery writers and
one of the most colourful presenters on TV, will be
presenting his own unique brand of cookery theatre at
Linthwaite House Hotel, overlooking Lake Windermere
in the Lake District starting in the Spring of 2007.
Keith
Floyd has published over twenty-seven books in his career,
(including three in the last year Floyd's China,
Keith Floyd's Thai Food and A Splash and a Dash just
out) and he has presented nineteen TV series which were
phenomenally successful (and still being televised throughout
forty countries world wide).
Whilst
touring the country performing in his sell out one man
show, Floyd Uncorked, Keith Floyd came to Kendal where
he stayed at Linthwaite and was so knocked out by the
Lake District that he suggested a Cookery Theatre would
give him the opportunity to be in the Lakes more often!
He
will be demonstrating varieties of his culinary world
including:
-
French Provincial Cooking
- Fish
and Shellfish
- Back
to British
- Mediterranean
Cooking
You
will have a chance to rub shoulders and exchange culinary
thoughts with the great man himself. You will be able
to taste his food as he cooks and interact with Floyd
something you couldnt do with TV . . .
and you may even have a chance to find out how good
that glass of wine was he always seemed to have in his
hand.

Demonstration
cooking by Keith Floyd
There
will be two shows each week - one week per month from
March to June 2007. On the evening of your arrival,
enjoy a drink with Floyd, followed by Linthwaites
own Chefs four course dinner - there will be
a Captains table for anyone on their own, or
if you simply want to be eating with others. The following
morning after a hearty Cumbrian breakfast, Keiths
Cookery Theatre will start around 10:00 am and finish
at 4:00 pm in the afternoon. Lunch is included, and
of course much of that will be trying whats
been cooked . . . youll also be able to taste
throughout the demonstration! In the evening enjoy
another Linthwaite dinner, and then the following
morning depart refreshed and more knowledgeable!
Its
interesting to note that many of Linthwaites
young brigade of Chefs were heavily influenced and
inspired to become chefs by Floyds TV series
when they were small boys watching on Mum and Dads
knees, and they are all very excited at the prospect
of being able to work with Keith.

The
English Lake District
The
English Lake District has long been treasured for its
spectacular beauty, made famous by the many great literary
figures connected with the area - none more so than
the poet William Wordsworth who was born in Cockermouth
in 1770 and whose home for much of his life, Dove Cottage,
and Rydal Mount can be visited to this day in Grasmere.
Lake
District National Park
Occupying
the central portion of Cumbria, the Lake District National
Park covers around 700 square miles of England's most
stunning scenery. Renowned for both its lakes and mountains,
the region is home to both England's largest lake, Windermere,
and highest mountain, Scafell Pike at 3,210 feet. Nearby
Helvellyn is not far behind at 3,118 feet.
The
Lake District's dramatic glacial landscape is a haven
for walkers and watersports enthusiasts. Well known
lakes in the area besides Windermere include Derwentwater,
Ullswater, Coniston, Thirlmere, Bassenthwaite Lake,
Haweswater, Brotherswater and Buttermere, each of which
has its own unique character and charm. For those that
are here for a more relaxing break, there are numerous
towns and villages to be enjoyed - there is Bowness
and Windermere almost on the hotel's doorstep, of course,
but also towns such as Ambleside, Coniston, Grasmere,
Hawkshead, Kendal and Keswick that are a little further
afield yet which are all well worth a visit.

The
outskirts of Cumbria and the Lake District such as Carlisle,
the Eden Valley, the Lake District Peninsulas of Furness
and Cartmel, and Cumbria's west coast are also all worthy
of visits, offering a diverse range of scenery and local
attractions. It is perhaps no wonder that the Lake District
is England's most popular tourist destination outside
of London.
The
area around Linthwaite House abounds with places of
special interest and places to visit. There are over
fifty visitor centres and attractions some of the more
famous include Beatrix Potter's Sebenteenth century
house from where she penned many of her famous children's
stories and William Wordsworth's beloved homes, Dove
Cottage and Rydal Mount. There are an array of historic
homes and gardens. Many attractions are open all year
round and all are within easy reach of the hotel.
The
Lake District has endless activities from mountain biking
(available for hire from the hotel) to hill walking.
For avid golfers Linthwaite is only a mile away from
Windermere Golf Club (Certificate of Handicap required)
- tee off times can be arranged. For the less energetic
enjoy a gentle stroll around one of the picturesque
villages or a little shopping. Or take a relaxing cruise
on one of the many lake cruises.
