Recipe for :

Grandma M's Apfel Kuchen
This recipe has been contributed by Becky who like me loves cooking good food, especially for the family. You can find more of Becky's recipes, as well as finding out more about her, at her website.

This is what Becky said about this recipe:

"This little dessert brings back wonderful memories of my Grandma. It's a German coffeecake, the bottom crust is soft and moist, with baked apples in the middle, and topped by a sugary crust. It's soooooo good!!! ;~)".

1 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
3/4 cup milk
Dash of salt
1/4 cup sugar
8 - 10 baking apples

1 cup sugar
1/4 cup flour
1 egg
2 tablespoons butter or margarine

  • Preheat oven to 350ºF degrees.
  • Mix first six ingredients in medium bowl and spread evenly in an 8 x 10 inch pan.
  • Peel and halve apples and place in rows on top of the crust.
  • Mix together topping ingredients and spread over apples. It will not cover every inch, but just try to spread it evenly.
  • Bake for 30 to 45 minutes until apples are soft and top is crusty.
