This is one of the recipes that has been provided by Shirley Cline from San Fransisco. (You can contact Shirley by emailing her - click here).

1 (18 oz.) package yellow cake mix
1/2 cup margarine, melted
3 eggs (one for the cake mix and two for the topping mix)
8 oz. soft cream cheese
1 lb. box powdered sugar
1/2 - 3/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
1/2 cup flaked coconut

Make up cake mix as per instructions and pour into large flat pan.

Beat remaining 2 eggs lightly, then beat in the cream cheese and powdered sugar. Stir in coconut and nuts. Pour over cake mixture in pan, spreading evenly. Bake at 325º for 45 - 50 minutes. Cool pan on wire rack to room temperature.

Use Plain cake mix not the one with pudding added.

Do not use whipped maragrine - use the traditional stick margarine.

Makes 4 dozen squares
