Recipe for family meals :

Coffee Crème Chocolate Cake

This recipe comes from Bella.

100 g (3 1/2 oz) melted dark chocolate
75 g (2 1/2 oz) butter or margarine
2 dl (good 3/4 cup) sugar
2 eggs
2 1/2 dl (1 cup) flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 dl (good 1/3 cup) cream

150 g (5 oz) unsalted butter or margarine
3/4 dl (1/3 cup) powdered sugar
50 g (1 3/4 oz) melted dark chocolate
1 dl (good 1/3 cup) strong brewed coffee

75 - 100 g (2 1/2 - 3 1/2 oz) melted dark chocolate

  • Stir fat and sugar fluffy and stir in eggs and the cool, melted chocolate. Stir this batter vigorously, then add alternatively flour mixed with baking powder, and cream. Pour the batter in a well-greased, floured baking dish and bake at 175ºC / 350ºF for 50 - 60 minutes. Unmold and allow to cool.
  • Stir fat and powdered sugar fluffy, add the chocolate and stir vigorously. Mix in coffee and, if you want to, add a few drops of brandy for the taste, but it's completely optional and not at all necessary.
  • Split the cake in 3 layers and divide the creme on all the three. Leave in a cool place for a couple of hours, then glaze the whole cake with chocolate and serve with whipped cream.
  • One good thing you can do is to drip fresh orange juice over the layers before putting on the chocolate creme, i.e. before filling the cake.
