Recipe for family meals :

Lamb Burger Pittas

Working at the BBC Good Food Show last November gave me very little opportunity to actually see much of the show. However, one interesting item I did get given was a CD-Rom of recipes, promoting New Zealand Lamb. There are some first class recipes - hopefully they will not mind me publishing a few!

How to introduce New Zealand Lamb? That is probably best left to the New Zealanders themselves:

15ml / tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
15ml / 1tbsp. lemon juice
15ml / 1tbsb. freshly chopped mint

Method
  • Mix the minced lamb with the mustard, chilli sauce, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice and chopped mint.
  • Bind the ingredients together with the egg and add plenty of seasoning.
  • Shape the mixture into 16 small burgers, then cook under a pre-heated grill for about 5 minutes on each side until brown and cooked through.
  • Warm the pitta breads under the grill, then split in half and fill with salad.
  • Top each with two burgers and serve with garlic mayonnaise.

Hints and Tips:

  • Make the mixture into 8 burgers and serve in burger buns for the kids' tea.
  • Use 5ml / 1 tsp dried mint if fresh mint isn't available.
