Recipe for :

Prawn Curry

This is one of the recipes that has been provided by Vandana who is very much a keen cook of Indian dishes. Hopefully there will be more to come!


1 to 1 1/2 cups shelled prawns
1 onion chopped
2 green chilies slit lengthwise
5 gm dried Tamarind
2 cup coconut milk
1 cup of water
2 tbs coriander leaves chopped
Salt to taste

To be ground:
1/4 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp coriander seeds
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
4 flakes garlic
a small piece of ginger
8 - 10 dry red chilies

  • Make a paste of all the ingredients mentioned above 'To be ground' adding a tsp or two of water if necessary to make a smooth paste.
  • Fry the onion in a little oil till light brown.
  • Add prawns and fry till the color changes.
  • Add the paste, water and coconut cream and simmer until the gravy is reduced to half.
  • Soak the tamarind in 1/4 cup of water and extract the juice.
  • Add to the gravy gradually with the salt and cook till the gravy is thick and creamy.

Serve hot garnished with chopped coriander leaves.
