Recipe for :

Shredded Cabbage

This is one of the recipes that has been provided by Vandana who is very much a keen cook of Indian dishes. Hopefully there will be more to come!

I asked Vandana for a little background information:

"I live in Pune, India. I am a South Indian so many of my recipes are from that area. I enjoy cooking and my family and friends do say that it is appetizing! By profession I am a Relocation Consultant and the India head of an International Charity. I hope that covers the introduction".


250 gm cabbage shredded
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp turmeric powder
a pinch of asafetida
1 large onion chopped
1 large tomato chopped
2 green chilies chopped
2 flakes of garlic and 1/2 inch piece ginger ground together
2 tbsp ghee
salt and chili powder to taste

  • Heat ghee and add cumin seeds - let them splutter.
  • Add turmeric, asafetida, chilies and onion and fry till golden.
  • Put tomatoes, ginger garlic paste, chili powder and sauté till ghee floats on top.
  • Put cabbage and salt and cover and cook until cabbage is done.
