Smoked Salmon Chowder

This recipes comes from Dancer and Graphic artist Martin James. Martin, who originally comes from New Zealand, is now living with his wife and children in Copenhagen as he is currently principal Dancer with The Royal Danish Ballet. Being so gifted it seems unfair that Martin should also be talented in the kitchen as well but he has agreed to share some of his recipes with us which is great news.


3 Tablespoons Olive oil
1 cup Onions, diced
1/2 cup Celery, diced
1/2 cup Carrots, diced
3 Tablespoons Flour
1/2 teaspoon Garlic, minced
2 cups Potatoes, diced, cooked
1 cup Chicken broth
1 cup Clam juice (bottled)
4 cups Milk
4 ounces Smoked salmon, minced
1 teaspoon Dill
1/2 teaspoon Pepper

  • Heat the oil in a soup pot.
  • Add the onions, celery and carrots. Cook until just soft.
  • Sprinkle on the flour. Cook for 3 minutes, stirring frequently.
  • Stir in the remaining ingredients. Bring to just under a boil.
  • Reduce the heat and simmer over low heat for 35 minutes (stirring often).
  • Serve warm.
