Bonito con Tomate - Tuna in Tomato Sauce

This recipe comes from Mesón La Rioja, a Spanish restaurant in Marbella which specialises in serving authentic and popular Spanish cuisine. The restaurant is owned and run by Elena and Luis Ochoa who have kindly given permission for the recipe to be reproduced here.


1 kilo tuna
1 kilo tomatos
1 onion
3 roasted peppers
2 gloves garlic
olive oil

  • Peel and de-seed the tomatos.
  • Lightly fry the tomatoes and chopped onion and garlic. Season with salt and add sugar to sweeten.
  • In a separate saucepan sauté the tuna for 2 minutes and place in a serving dish.
  • Add in the tomato sauce and leave to cook for a further 5 minutes.
  • Place the roasted peppers on top in trips and cook for 10 minutes more.

Serve Hot.
