Recipe for :

Tomato Soup

This recipes comes from Dancer and Graphic artist Martin James. Martin, who originally comes from New Zealand, is now living with his wife and children in Copenhagen as he is currently principal Dancer with The Royal Danish Ballet. You will be able to find out more about Martin when his Biography page is published.

Being so gifted it seems unfair that Martin should also be talented in the kitchen as well but he has agreed to share some of his recipes with us which is great news.


1 tablespoon of butter
1 small onion
1 pound of fresh tomatoes
2 tablespoons flour
1 liter of water
salt, pepper
basil leaves
1 tablespoon brown sugar


  • In a large pan, melt the butter and add the onions diced.
  • Wash the tomatoes and cut them into small pieces.
  • Add the tomatoes into the pan and stir for 30 seconds.
  • Add the flour and stir for another 30 seconds.
  • Add the water slowly while continuing to stir.
  • Add the salt, pepper, basil leaves, thyme and brown sugar.
  • Let it cook slowly over low heat for about 50 minutes while stirring every few minutes.
  • Then pour it into the blender and liquify the soup for just a few seconds.
