Tapas: Jamón y Queso Tostadas - Grilled Serrano Ham and Manchego Cheese Bruschetta

This recipe has been reproduced with the kind permission of Proper-Spanish-Tapas.com

The site is the work of Steve and Carole who have retired to the good life in Spain and are passionate about their tapas.

There is a whole lot more to find out about Tapas on the web site as well as more information about Spanish food. Want to know about Sapnish sherry? Have a look at the web site: Proper-Spanish-Tapas.com

Ingredients

slices of bread (baguette or similar, cut on the diagonal)
slices of jamon serrano
slices of manchego cheese
extra-virgin olive oil
whole-grain mustard (optional)

Method

  • Preheat the grill.
  • Toast each slice of bread on one side only until lightly golden brown, then turn over and drizzle with the olive oil.
  • Place the cheese slices on the bread, top each slice of cheese with a slice of ham and grill until the cheese begins to melt.
  • Serve with the mustard separately or you can spread it on the cheese before it goes under the grill.

Note:

A variation on this is to lightly toast both sides of the bread first and rub one side with half a clove of garlic before you drizzle the oil and place the cheese and ham. Just make sure the whole slice is covered or you could end up with the toast edges burnt to a crisp!
