BRIAN TURNER DELIVERS DINNERS IN A DASH FOOD & COOKING ARTICLE

Ways with PotatoesOne of the UK's favourite chefs, Brian Turner, has smash-ed his way into the supermarket to show the many tempting ways to use convenience potato products and devised the ultimate recipe plan for the British Potato Council - 'Seven Ways with Potatoes for Seven Days'.

The celebrity chef has created the recipes using the endless choice of convenience potato products - chilled, frozen and pre-prepared - that can be used to produce tasty, healthy meals in minutes. Recent research by the British Potato Council reveals many people start planning their evening meal 24 hours in advance, but Brian's seven potato-inspired recipes provide a whole week's meal plan in an instant.

Turner commented: "Who says that potatoes have to take a long time to prepare and cook? Who has the time? There are loads of fantastic potato products that can make all of our lives easier, and there is absolutely no reason to be a 'food-snob' about it!"

"Our lives are stressful enough, and cooking meals just adds to - or sometimes even creates - that stress. What I'm saying is that there are some great convenient potato products in the supermarkets that are not only quick and easy, but mean that you don't have to worry about what to cook at night."

Supporting Brian is British Potato Council Nutritionist, Fiona Hunter, who says that potatoes are a quick and healthy way to make mealtimes less stressful.
"Convenient potato products come in a variety of shapes and sizes, from waffles to chips and croquettes to ready-made mash - and all of them can be good for you as part of a healthy balanced diet. Potatoes are naturally low in fat and contain good amounts of several essential vitamins and minerals."

Brian's recipes can be prepared, cooked and on the table in 25 minutes, helping to make mealtimes a far more pleasurable experience. Each of his recipes use exciting ingredients and methods to demonstrate the versatility of pre-prepared potatoes. The recipes are:

Each recipe is individually designed to appeal to food-lovers who demand great tasting meals without having to spend a long time in the kitchen. Potatoes are packed full of energy giving carbohydrates, fibre, vitamins and minerals. For example the Spicy Potato Wedges are only 160 calories and contain 7g fat.

To further take advantage of all quick and easy convenience potato products, the British Potato Council has the following tips and information:

  • Oven bake chips to ensure they are as healthy as possible
  • Chunky chips absorb less fat than thin chips and have fluffier potato fillings which are packed with fibre and vitamin C
  • When making jacket potatoes why not bake extra? Then you can refrigerate the leftovers and use them in quick and easy salads.
  • To save time, do not peel potatoes. The skin maintains many nutrients; so enjoying your spuds with the skins on provides an extra boost of nutrition.
  • One medium jacket potato provides 26% of your daily requirement for fibre and around half the recommended daily amount of vitamin C.
